紫陽花(hydrangea)からはじまる梅雨の一コマ

何気無く置いてあるがいい。

一輪挿し」っていいね、いつもの暮らしの中に花や緑があると癒やされますね。 ほんの少し、一輪、一枝でも空間に潤いを与えてくれます。さて、よかったら、ちょっとこちらにも目を向けてください。私、中学の恩師の作品「まごころ」の花と緑のなかのアジサイが大好きです。

「あじさいが今頃咲き始めている。紫陽花と書く。紫の太陽のようなこの花は梅雨の時期に花を咲かせる。そして、花の色が変わるのが特徴である。辞典で調べると、緑から白そして青紫と変わるとある。けさ見たあじさいは緑に近かかった。あじさいは雨の降る季節にふさわしい花である。しかも、雨を嫌っていない。毎日降り続ける雨を楽しんでいるような姿は派手でもないし、地味でもない。梅雨のうっとうしさをおよそ感じさせない。

昔からあじさいは花の色が変わるところから、人間の心変わりするのにたとえられ、花ことばも変心，無節操となっていたように思う。しかしそれは友達やいろいろな人に裏切られた人が感じたのであって，あれこれ色を変えてまで、自分の美しさを創り出そうとしているこの花の誠意を感ぜずにおれない。しかも、じめじめした中で、すこしでも人々の心に明るさを与えようとしている捨て身の美しさには、ただ感嘆するほかはない。

全く地上における紫の太陽である。」

HYDRANGEA

The Hydrangea is blooming now. In Japanese characters it is written as “shi you ka” (purple sun flower). Looking like violet sun rays, it blooms in the rainy season. One of its characteristics is that it changes color. According to the dictionary, it changes from green to white to blue violet. The one I saw this morning was almost green, harmonious with the rainy season. Actually it doesn’t dislike the rain at all. If you look at it, it seems to be enjoying the rain falling every day. Neither too gaudy nor too plain, it helps you not to feel the gloom of the rainy season.

In days gone by the words used to describe this flower were “changing heart” and “infidelity”. Its color changes were compared to the changes of the human heart, as when someone betrays a friend. However, I cannot help but feel that the flower is sincere in trying to create self-beauty by changing from one color to another. Moreover, I can only marvel at the wonder of how, in self sacrifice, it gives of itself to brighten our hearts a little in gloomy seasons. It really is like a
